Maximising Your Coaching Relationship
How to communicate and collaborate with your coach for the best results: Climbing Training Plan PLUS
Communication is one of the biggest factors in getting great results from your training. Your plan is built using data and experience, but the real support comes from the ongoing information you share with your coach. Sharing what’s going well, what feels challenging, and what’s changing in your life helps your coach make the right adjustments, refine your training load, and support you when it matters most
“Edd has been great — quick communication, clear explanations on why we’re doing things, guidance on intensity, and timely tweaks when needed.”
— Lattice Athlete
Every climber has a different communication style and preference. Some like regular check-ins and others prefer to reach out only when something changes. Both approaches work — what matters is that you communicate what works best for you. Your initial consultation call is a great time to discuss what communication styles work well for you with your coach. If you’d like more frequent updates or find a particular form of communication most helpful, let your coach know.
While your coach will check in periodically, you are the best source of real-time information. You’re the one experiencing your training and climbing day to day, so sharing key updates — whether about your progress, challenges, or life events — helps your coach make meaningful adjustments and support you effectively.
Communication and support
Chat with your coach: You’ll find the chat function on your Profile page. This is your space to ask questions, share updates, and get ongoing feedback.
You should receive a reply to your chat within 72 hours.
Between Monday and Friday, responses are often quicker — but remember, coaches don’t work on weekends or bank holidays, so please allow for this turnaround time.
Technical issues: If something in the app isn’t working as expected, start by messaging your coach — they can guide you or report issues for you. If you can’t reach your coach because the chat isn’t working, use the contact form and select “App support or feature suggestion.”
Questions: Your coach is your first point of contact for any queries — even if they’re not directly about your training. They’ll either answer your question or connect you with the right person on the Lattice team.
Your workout logs: the context of your training
Every log tells part of your story. When you record your workouts, your coach can see what areas of your training you have been consistent with — but adding notes gives additional context, which can be important for troubleshooting and fine-tuning your plan.
Include:
- Weights, climbing grades or facilities used
- Effort level (how hard the workout felt)
- Useful context — e.g. “high motivation session”, “felt tired after work,” “conditions were hot,” or “felt high energy.”
These details help your coach understand how training feels in real life and spot useful trends over time. The more complete your logs, the better your coach can support you. This feature combines well with the chat function, as you can direct your coach to session logs to help provide them with information.
Chatting with your coach: When to reach out (and what to include)
When you’re unsure about your training
If you’re not sure how to complete a session (e.g. intensity, form, or equipment), message your coach.
👉 Include: Which workout you’re asking about and what part is unclear. Photos can be really helpful, and you can send them via chat. If you want to share videos, then you can share them via Google Drive.
When you’re unsure about why you’re doing something
Understanding the reasoning behind your plan helps build trust and commitment.
👉 Include: The part of your plan you’re unsure about, and what would help you feel confident — more detail, examples, or explanation.
When you’re ill or feel a niggle
Small issues are best caught early. It’s tempting to push through, but recovery is key to progress.
👉 Include: What you’re feeling, where it is, how long it’s been going on, and what movements make you aware of it.
When you experience an injury
For acute injuries (like a pulley, shoulder, or ankle), contact your coach straight away. They can help you understand timelines, when to see a physio, and how to adjust your plan so you can stay engaged.
👉 Include: What happened, when it happened, what you’ve done since, and how severe it feels right now.
When life changes
Work, travel, stress, or family commitments can all affect recovery and consistency. Communicating this helps your coach find the right balance — whether that’s adjusting your load or giving you more flexibility. It may be that you want to change direction to a new goal, or a trip changes.
👉 Include: Whatever details feel comfortable, but be clear on how it’s affecting your training, energy, time, or motivation.
Share your wins!
Your coach loves hearing about your progress — big or small. Maybe you’ve hit a new grade, felt more confident on the wall, or nailed your training consistency. Sharing these moments helps keep motivation high and lets your coach celebrate your success with you.
Communication drives better coaching
Think of communication as a feedback loop: your coach designs, your feedback gives more information, and your coach adjusts to refine. Logging your workouts and staying in touch keeps your training aligned with your reality — helping you stay consistent, adapt smartly, and make the most of your plan.
Providing Feedback
Near the end of each 12-week block, your coach will send you a feedback form via chat. This helps both of you reflect on your progress, review what’s worked well, and provide useful information for your next phase.
If you’d prefer to share feedback through another route, you can use the post-purchase feedback form (emailed to you), or reach out directly to contact@latticetraining.com

Your first few weeks set the tone for your training journey. Explore the app, get familiar with logging, and stay in touch with your coach — they’re here to help you succeed.
