How your LatticePlan is unique to you

1. Personalised Plan

The LatticePlan is designed to be fully adaptive and personalised to you. Your plan adjusts to your specific profile across your experience in fingerboarding, climbing and strength and conditioning. It also takes into account your goals, age, sex and availability to train.

2. Plan Adaptation

These inputs enable the technology, which combines data-driven precision with the intuition of expert coaches, to create a plan that is tailored to your needs, experience, and training capacity.

Don't worry about ensuring everything is perfect upfront. The app ensures your plan remains effective by continuously learning and adapting to your real-time feedback.

Guidance for answering the starter questionnaire: To ensure your choices accurately reflect your experience, an information symbol is available for many questions in the initial questionnaire, such as selecting your fingerboarding experience level. This symbol provides further information to help you select the most appropriate option.

The weekly check-in quiz

The weekly check-in quiz helps your LatticePlan continually fine-tune your training load to keep you progressing. It works alongside your workout logs to give the app a clear picture of your effort, recovery, and capacity.

At the start of each week, the short quiz gathers insight into how well you are coping with training, how recovered you feel, and whether your workload feels sustainable.

The weekly check-in also allows you to schedule a deload or rest week and adapt your training around illness or injury.

It is important to be thoughtful and honest when you answer. Reflecting on your calendar and recent sessions helps you give clear answers. The more accurate your feedback is, the smarter your recovery scheduling will be

You can manually add workouts to your plan where you feel something is missing, or if you don't have access to certain facilities one week.

When on an active subscription, there is the option to edit this plan on the Home - Overview tab (under the video)

You could also start a new plan if you want to significantly change your profile or goals by heading to the Home tab - Overview - Edit this plan and choosing 'start a new training plan.'

What equipment do I need for my LatticePlan?

For a typical LatticePlan, access to the following is generally presumed or highly recommended:

  • A climbing gym: Regular access to climbing facilities and free weights, usually found in commercial gyms
  • Fingerboard: Highly recommended for building finger strength and injury resilience.
  • Pull-up Bar
  • Weights: A means for adding weight (e.g., a weight belt and harness)
  • Conditioning Tools: Equipment like a TRX or rings can support conditioning exercises

Future Features: We are actively building an equipment filtering system into LatticePlans in early 2026, which will help you manage what equipment is available on any given day.

What is the difference between a Climbing Training Plan and LatticePlan?

The Climbing Training Plan is a 100% customised training plan, written by a Lattice coach.  These plans are delivered in 12 or 24-week blocks and delivered on the Lattice Training app. Using your initial mini remote assessment and the answers you provide in your pre-plan form (about your goals, training facilities, history, time to train and anything else you’d like to tell us),  our world-class coaches will use this information to write you the perfect plan, made just for you. They will also send you a video overview of your plan to explain how it works.

A LatticePlan is a 100% customised climbing training plan, powered by our Intelligent Climbing Training Technology and is delivered on the Lattice Training app. It starts with a questionnaire which collects information about your training goals, performance level and experience, what time you have to train and things like your age and gender.
The LatticePlan is fully adaptive. It continually fine-tunes your training load, recovery, and progression week-by-week based on your workout logs and answers in the weekly check-in quiz.

In summary, the Climbing Training Plan is ideal if you value a coach-written training plan structure built from an initial assessment and the detailed information you provide in a pre-plan form. The LatticePlan is best if you need a plan that is highly responsive and automatically adapts to your real-time fatigue and performance data week after week.

Will the LatticePlan replace 1:1 coaching?

The LatticePlan is a powerful, structured and intelligent training solution, but it isn’t a replacement for the 1:1 coaching in our Climbing Training Plan PLUS and Flexibility Training Plan services (and it’s not possible to run both services at the same time).

LatticePlan uses our Intelligent Climbing Training Technology to build and adapt training plans around each climber’s schedule and goals. It draws on a huge dataset of climbing training and a framework designed by our coaching team to deliver a high-quality, personalised training experience. We’re incredibly proud of this system and the level of support it offers.

However, even with all that sophistication, it still cannot replicate what a dedicated coach provides. With coaching, your plan is crafted by someone who understands the full context of your climbing: your history, personality, motivations, lifestyle, mindset, and the nuance within your assessment.  That level of human insight is what keeps coached plans so uniquely powerful.

We're proud to offer a wider range of training plans and all have the power to help you reach your climbing and training goals. Please get in touch if you have more questions about any of our services.

FAQ's

Getting started

What level of experience is required for a LatticePlan?

A LatticePlan is suitable for everyone, whether you are a beginner or an experienced climber. There is no minimum grade or fitness requirement. The sign-up questionnaire captures your current level, and the plan adapts each week based on your progress and feedback.

Can a complete beginner use the LatticePlan?

Yes. A LatticePlan is suitable for everyone, whether you are brand new to climbing or have been climbing for years. The questionnaire assesses your experience and goals, and the plan — and each weekly check-in — adjusts to where you are right now. If you are unsure about any strength and conditioning elements, your local gym should have coaches who can help with form and technique on those exercises.

Can I start a plan midway through the week?

Yes. Your plan usually begins with a Ramp Week, which is designed specifically to ease you into training regardless of when you start.

I'm currently on a coached plan. Can I switch to a LatticePlan?

You cannot run both a coached plan and a LatticePlan at the same time. Once your current coached plan has finished, you are welcome to try a LatticePlan, you can start with a 7-day free trial and then move into a monthly or annual subscription. All your existing training data will remain in the app.

Will my data be transferred from the old app?

Yes. The transition to the new app functions as a standard app update via the app store. All existing data, including your climbing logs and past training plans, is automatically preserved and accessible within the app. Remote Assessment integration is planned for spring 2026.

Can I train on two plans at once?

No. The app does not allow multiple plans to run simultaneously. If you have signed up for a LatticePlan while another training plan is active, please see the subscription management article for information on cancellation and refunds.

Your plan

How does the LatticePlan compare to Crimpd or other climbing apps?

The experience is very different from Crimpd. Crimpd Plus offers pre-programmed plans where you select a broad level (beginner, intermediate, or advanced), but there is no deeper customisation. A LatticePlan is built specifically for you, every workout is selected based on your sign-up questionnaire, which takes into account your climbing ability, training experience, age, goals, and schedule. The plan is then periodised to peak at the right time. We have included a 7-day free trial so you can see exactly how the sign-up process works and what your plan looks like. Cancelling is quick and easy if you decide it is not for you.

Is the LatticePlan built by artificial intelligence (AI)?

No. LatticePlan is not built with AI or machine learning and does not generate content randomly. Every rule, boundary, and progression is written or reviewed by coaches. All logic is explicit and traceable. LatticePlan is algorithmically generated, a rule-based system that selects the right training template and workout sequences based on what you tell us. It is fully deterministic and built on structured coach-designed logic.

Why are there no assessments involved in these plans?

Currently, LatticePlans do not require assessment data because they are built to be fully adaptive to the inputs you provide and your real-time performance. We use the RPE scale (Rate of Perceived Exertion) to monitor exercise intensity and prescribe training load. We plan to integrate assessment data in future app updates in spring 2026, which will add another layer of personalisation and enhance progress tracking.

Can I customise my plan once it is set?

Yes, to a degree. Once your plan is created, you can delete workouts, add new ones from the workout library, move sessions to different days each week, and log other types of training such as running or stretching.

At the moment, you cannot create entirely custom workouts, and there is no single 'permanent replace' toggle for individual workouts. If you delete and replace a workout, you will need to do this each week. We are working on more detailed equipment selection, alternative workout switching, and bulk-edit tools, and these are planned for 2026.

What if the training load is not right for me?

The plan uses your workout logs and weekly check-in to continually fine-tune your training load. If you are consistently feeling overloaded or fatigued, you can manually schedule a deload week or rest week during your weekly check-in, which will automatically reduce your upcoming training volume and intensity. If the plan consistently feels too easy or too hard, make sure you are logging your effort levels accurately after each session, this is the key input the system uses to adapt.

How can I extend my plan or generate a similar one?

There is no way to directly extend your current plan. However, you can generate a similar new plan by going to Overview → Edit my plan → Generate a similar training plan. This will produce a plan very close to your current one with a new ramp week to ease you back in.

Will the LatticePlan take into account my other sports and hobbies?

You can log other sports in the app. The app will not directly factor that loading into your plan through those logs at first, but it will ask you each week about your overall training load, motivation, and how your body feels, and it will use those responses to adjust your plan. Your other sports contribute to how you feel overall, so they will still influence the adjustments. You can also add tags on the progress screen during a weekly check-in to indicate events like a holiday or other sporting activity.

Training content

Are flexibility and mobility workouts included?

Yes. Plans include finger strength, climbing-specific work (strength and power, power endurance, and endurance), strength and conditioning with weights, and flexibility and mobility. Standalone 'strength and conditioning', 'flexibility', and 'finger strength' only plans are planned for early 2026 — but the initial focus is on overall climbing performance.

Does the LatticePlan teach movement and technique-based skills?

At the moment, the primary focus of your LatticePlan is physical training — targeting specific adaptations like strength or endurance relevant to your climbing discipline. For technique development, we highly recommend our free YouTube content. We are working on adding more movement-focused features in the coming year.

Can I speak to a coach during the plan?

Direct 1:1 communication with a coach is not included in the LatticePlan service. Your plan is designed to be self-sufficient and adaptive. If you have questions about the plan or the app, you can contact the team at contact@latticetraining.com. If you would like ongoing coach support, our Climbing Training Plan PLUS service includes this.

What happens if I don't understand something?

If you have questions about your plan, the app, or need general guidance, contact the Lattice team at contact@latticetraining.com.

Does it take into account home-based climbers and available equipment?

Yes. You can select 'home training' days when setting up your plan. Home training currently covers the most common home equipment, such as small weights and a fingerboard or lifting edge. A home session might include finger strength work, conditioning, and flexibility. More detailed equipment selection options are planned for 2026.

Specific circumstances

I'm pregnant or recently postpartum. Is the LatticePlan right for me?

Training during pregnancy or in the months after birth requires specialist guidance. Our LatticePlan service isn't currently able to collect the level of information needed or adjust training with the precision required during this period. We recommend working with our specialist coach Jemma via our Climbing Training Plan PLUS service or booking one of her specialist consultations. Read Pregnancy, Postpartum, and Training With Lattice | LatticePlan for more info.

Are LatticePlans suitable for disabled or paraclimbers?

Currently,LatticePlans can't collect or interpret the specific information needed to tailor plans for disabled or paraclimbers — and because of this, they may not be able to design sessions that fully align with your training needs. This is currently only achievable through our 1:1 coaching options, where training can be customised with the nuance and care it deserves. Please get in touch so we can discuss what support you need. Read Training With a Disability | LatticePlan for more info.

I have a lower-body injury. Is a LatticePlan suitable?

Currently, the LatticePlan injury management tools and equipment selection are still in development. If your main focus is injury management or rehab, a Climbing Training Plan would be a better starting point — you can let your coach know in the pre-plan form and they can focus on upper body conditioning and finger strength while you  recover. Read Injuries and Getting Started with LatticePlan for more info.

I tend to get injured easily. Would a LatticePlan be suitable?

LatticePlans are designed to build long-term strength and robustness through sustainable weekly progressions. However, our injury management tools are still in development, so if your primary focus is injury prevention, rehab, or managing a known recurring issue, a coached plan is a better starting point. A coach can provide 1:1 guidance tailored to your needs, and once you're confident and injury-free, you can transition to a LatticePlan while keeping all your training data in one place.

I'm 70 and climb 5c. Are LatticePlans for me?

Absolutely, LatticePlans have no minimum age or grade requirement. Unlike our Climbing Training Plans, which require a fingerboard hang of 10 seconds on a 20mm edge and a recent grade of V4/6b+ (as they start with a physical assessment), LatticePlans are built entirely from the information you provide in the questionnaire and adapt from there. We'd recommend giving the 7-day free trial a go. If you're not confident with some of the strength and conditioning elements, a session with a personal trainer at your local gym can help with form and equipment use.

Is the LatticePlan available in my country?

LatticePlans are available globally through the iOS and Android app stores and via our website. However, due to international sanctions regulations, our payment provider is currently unable to support purchases from certain regions. Apple and Google also have restrictions on app access and payments in some countries. If you are unsure whether the service is available in your region, please get in touch.
