How your LatticePlan is unique to you

The LatticePlan is designed to be fully adaptive and personalised. The plan adjusts to your specific profile across your experience in fingerboarding, climbing and strength and conditioning. It also takes into account your goals, age, sex and availability to train.

These inputs enable the technology, which combines data-driven precision with the intuition of expert coaches, to create a plan that is tailored to your needs, experience, and training capacity.

Don't worry about ensuring everything is perfect upfront. The app ensures your plan remains effective by continuously learning and adapting to your real-time feedback.

Guidance for answering the starter questionnaire: To ensure your choices accurately reflect your experience, an information symbol is available for many questions in the initial questionnaire, such as selecting your fingerboarding experience level. This symbol provides further information to help you select the most appropriate option.

The weekly check-in quiz

The weekly check-in quiz helps your LatticePlan continually fine-tune your training load to keep you progressing. It works alongside your workout logs to give the app a clear picture of your effort, recovery, and capacity.

At the end of each week, the short quiz gathers insight into how well you are coping with training, how recovered you feel, and whether your workload feels sustainable.

The weekly check-in also allows you to schedule a deload or rest week and adapt your training around illness or injury.

It is important to be thoughtful and honest when you answer. Reflecting on your calendar and recent sessions helps you give clear answers. The more accurate your feedback is, the smarter your recovery scheduling will be

You can manually add workouts to your plan where you feel something is missing, or if you don't have access to certain facilities one week.

You could also start a new plan if you want to significantly change your profile or goals by choosing 'edit my training' in your profile.

What equipment do I need for my LatticePlan?

For a typical LatticePlan, access to the following is generally presumed or highly recommended:

  • A climbing gym: Regular access to climbing facilities and free weights, usually found in commercial gyms
  • Fingerboard: Highly recommended for building finger strength and injury resilience.
  • Pull-up Bar
  • Weights: A means for adding weight (e.g., a weight belt and harness)
  • Conditioning Tools: Equipment like a TRX or rings can support conditioning exercises

Future Features: We are actively building an equipment filtering system into LatticePlans in early 2026, which will help you manage what equipment is available on any given day.

What is the difference between a Climbing Training Plan and LatticePlan?

The Climbing Training Plan is a 100% customised training plan, written by a Lattice coach.  These plans are delivered in 12 or 24-week blocks and delivered on the Lattice Training app. Using your initial mini remote assessment and the answers you provide in your pre-plan form (about your goals, training facilities, history, time to train and anything else you’d like to tell us),  our world-class coaches will use this information to write you the perfect plan, made just for you. They will also send you a video overview of your plan to explain how it works.

A LatticePlan is a 100% customised climbing training plan, powered by our Intelligent Climbing Training Technology and is delivered on the Lattice Training app. It starts with a questionnaire which collects information about your training goals, performance level and experience, what time you have to train and things like your age and gender.
The LatticePlan is fully adaptive. It continually fine-tunes your training load, recovery, and progression week-by-week based on your workout logs and answers in the weekly check-in quiz.

In summary, the Climbing Training Plan is ideal if you value a coach-written training plan structure built from an initial assessment and the detailed information you provide in a pre-plan form. The LatticePlan is best if you need a plan that is highly responsive and automatically adapts to your real-time fatigue and performance data week after week.

Will the LatticePlan replace 1:1 coaching?

The LatticePlan is a powerful, structured and intelligent training solution, but it isn’t a replacement for the 1:1 coaching in our Climbing Training Plan PLUS and Flexibility Training Plan services (and it’s not possible to run both services at the same time).

LatticePlan uses our Intelligent Climbing Training Technology to build and adapt training plans around each climber’s schedule and goals. It draws on a huge dataset of climbing training and a framework designed by our coaching team to deliver a high-quality, personalised training experience. We’re incredibly proud of this system and the level of support it offers.

However, even with all that sophistication, it still cannot replicate what a dedicated coach provides. With coaching, your plan is crafted by someone who understands the full context of your climbing: your history, personality, motivations, lifestyle, mindset, and the nuance within your assessment.  That level of human insight is what keeps coached plans so uniquely powerful.

We're proud to offer a wider range of training plans and all have the power to help you reach your climbing and training goals. Please get in touch if you have more questions about any of our services.

FAQ's

  • What level of experience is required for a LatticePlan? A LatticePlan is suitable for everyone, whether you're a beginner or an experienced climber
  • I'm pregnant/postpartum. Is the LatticePlan right for me? Training during pregnancy or in the months after birth requires specialist guidance. Every person’s experience is different, and factors such as symptoms, trimester, delivery type, recovery rate, and everyday demands all influence which training will be most effective. Our LatticePlan service isn’t currently able to collect this level of information or adjust training with the precision needed during pregnancy or postpartum. However, you can work with Coach Jemma on our Plus service or book one of her specialist consultations
  • Are LatticePlans suitable for disabled or paraclimbers? Currently, LatticePlans can’t collect or interpret the specific information needed to tailor plans for disabled or paraclimbers. Because of this, it may not be able to design sessions and select workouts that fully align with your training needs. This is currently only achievable through our 1:1 coaching options, where training can be customised with the nuance and care it deserves. Get in touch so we can chat more about what support you need.
  • Why are there no assessments involved in these plans? Currently, the LatticePlans do not require assessment data because they are built to be fully adaptive to the inputs you provide and your real-time performance.
You will notice we use the RPE scale (rate of perceived exertion in training) to monitor exercise intensity and prescribe training load. We plan to integrate your assessment data in future app updates in spring'26 to add another layer of personalisation and enhance your progress tracking.
  • Is the LatticePlan built by artificial intelligence (AI)? LatticePlan is not built with AI or machine learning. It does not generate content randomly or scrape information from anywhere. Every rule, boundary and progression is written or reviewed by coaches. All logic is explicit and traceable. LatticePlan is algorithmically generated, it is a rule-based system that picks the right training template and workout sequences based on what users tell us. It’s fully deterministic and built on structured logic, plus the content our coaches have designed.
  • Can I start a plan midway through the week? Yes, the plan is built to fit your real-life schedule. Your plan usually begins with a Ramp Week, which is designed specifically to ease you into the training, regardless of when you start
  • Will my data be transferred from the old app? Yes. The transition to the new app will function as a standard app update via the app store, and all your existing data, including your climbing logs and past training plans, will be automatically preserved and accessible within the app.
We are planning exciting updates for spring 2026 to integrate your Remote Assessments directly into the new app interface.
  • Can I train on two plans at once? No, the app does not allow for multiple apps to run at the same time. If you have signed up for a LatticePlan whilst another training plan is active, please read this article for information on cancellation and refunds.
  • Does the LatticePlan teach movement and technique-based skills? At the moment, the primary focus of your LatticePlan is on physical training, targeting specific adaptations like strength or endurance relevant to your climbing discipline. We are working on more features that will focus on movement in the new year.
  • Can I speak to a coach during the plan? Coach communication isn't included in our LatticePlan service (you can sign up for our Climbing Training Plan PLUS service to receive coaching). Your plan is designed to be self-sufficient and adaptive, and it adjusts each week using your workout logs and weekly check-ins.
  • What happens if I don't understand something? If you have questions about your plan, the app, or need general guidance, you can contact the Lattice team at contact@latticetraining.com.
  • What if I am not happy with the workouts chosen? If you're not happy with the workouts chosen, you have options to add workouts to better suit your preferences, equipment, or motivation, while maintaining the overall structure of your plan. At the moment, you cannot delete the workouts given.

  • What if the training load is not right for me? The plan uses your workout logs and weekly check-in quiz to continually fine-tune your training load and ensure it aligns with your capacity, progress, and recovery

  • Are flexibility and mobility workouts included?  The plans include finger strength, climbing-specific work (strength & power, power endurance, and endurance), strength and conditioning with weights, and flexibility/mobility. We will be adding  'strength and conditioning', 'flexibility' and 'finger strength' only plans early next year, but to begin with, the focus is on climbing performance.
  • Does it take into account home-based climbers and available equipment? We’ve included the ability to select “home training” days. For the launch in December, home training covers the most common equipment, such as small weights like dumbbells and basic finger strength tools like hangboards or lifting edges. A home session might include finger strength work, conditioning, and flexibility. However, in early 2026, we’ll be adding more detailed equipment selections so you can fine-tune your training setup even further.
  • I have a lower-body injury.  Is a LatticePlan suitable? Currently, the LatticePlan injury management tools and equipment selection are still in development, so at the moment, a Climbing Training Plan would be the best option for you.
We can focus on upper body conditioning and finger strength with this plan; you just need to let us know in the pre-plan form we send you at the start.
  • Will the LatticePlan take into account my other sports and hobbies? You can log other sports in the app, but we won’t directly factor that loading into your plan through those logs, at least not at first. Instead, the app will ask you each week about your overall training load, motivation, and how your body feels, and it will use those responses to help adjust your plan. Since your other sports contribute to this overall feeling, they’ll still influence the adjustments.
