Injuries and training plans

Are you currently injured, concerned about getting injured or have a historic injury or condition that affects your climbing? We've explored some of the more commonly asked questions we hear from our clients below.

Injuries are the last thing we want when we're excited and ready to tackle our projects. However, it is important to acknowledge that injuries, illnesses, or other unforeseen circumstances can arise, affecting your ability to train. To assist you in navigating these challenges, we have compiled answers to some of the most frequently asked questions below.

I have a minor finger niggle, is it still possible for me to sign up for a training plan?

We advise that you fully recover before enrolling in a training plan. Since our programs are primarily delivered remotely and some are self-guided (without direct coaching support), this approach helps minimise the risk of exacerbating any existing conditions.

Our training plans begin with a remote assessment, during which you will need to perform exercises at maximal effort. Coaches will analyse your performance scores, along with your pre-plan form, to create a personalised training plan. However, this assessment could potentially aggravate your injury and hinder your recovery progress. Therefore, we cannot confidently provide you with training that might risk worsening your condition.

While you recover, we recommend consulting a climbing-specific physiotherapist who can create a tailored rehabilitation plan to help you regain your strength/ mobility. Once you have fully recovered, we'd be psyched to work with you.

In some cases we can work with an athlete on our Climbing Training Plan+ or Flexibility Training Plans which include 1-1 remote coaching, however, it is essential to obtain clearance from your physio before getting started.

Please feel free to reach out if you need recommendations for a physio or have any other questions.

I am mid-way through my ClimbingTraining Plan and have picked up an injury / I have fallen sick, what should I do?

If you have any concerns about an injury or illness, it is crucial to stop your training right away. Should your symptoms persist for more than 48 hours and you believe the issue is significant, please reach out to us. We can discuss options for pausing or cancelling your training plan based on your specific situation.

I have a historic injury and/or medical condition which affects my climbing, can I still sign up?

If you have a historical or non-acute injury that continues to cause concern, we recommend consulting a physiotherapist for guidance on your next steps. Once you receive clearance from your physio to resume climbing and training, we suggest exploring our Climbing Training Plan+ or Flexibility Training Plans, which include personalised 1-on-1 remote coaching support.

To ensure your rehabilitation plan is effectively supported, we kindly ask for a letter or email from your physiotherapist detailing which exercises you should include or avoid.

If you have a medical condition that impacts your climbing and training, we will need a doctor's note before you can sign up. This documentation allows our coaches to better understand your needs and tailor their support to help you progress in your climbing journey and reach your goals.

Do you offer rehab plans?

Unfortunately, we do not offer rehabilitation plans, as this falls within the scope of medical practitioners such as physiotherapists. A qualified physio would be best suited to guide your rehab over the coming weeks. They can create a personalised rehabilitation plan and offer regular check-ins to track your progress and make adjustments as needed.

I have injured my knee and I'm looking for a plan to keep me motivated through my rehab, can you help?

Our Fingerboard Training Plan is an excellent option for those dealing with a lower-body injury. This program is designed to enhance your finger and upper body strength while omitting climbing activities, allowing you to stay motivated and continue training safely during your rehabilitation.

If you're struggling with an illness or injury, stay strong! We know how frustrating and devastating it can be when you can't do the thing you love the most. We send you our warmest wishes through this period and look forward to supporting you in your climbing journey soon 💪💚
